Nothing indicates the eventual downfall of our species stronger than the, "You can't make fun of that!" sentiment. What kind of bullshit is that? As if there's a law somewhere that says you can't joke about death, rape, murder, kidnapping, natural disasters, or necrophilia. What happened to free speech? And the biggest censorship of them all is religion.
"Religion is sacred. You can't make fun of my religion!" Bull-shit! Notice how it's always, "My religion," with these nuts? It's fine if you call Muhammad a pedophile in the presence of Catholics, but don't insult their cracker or they'll cut ya!
Furthermore, why should anything be exempt from criticism? Criticism is the most important pillar of modern society. Without criticism, how would we sort the good ideas from the shitty ones? Without criticizing the inane and the piss-poor, how do we ever improve anything?
If you criticize an idea, and it stands its ground against your remarks, then it's probably not too bad of an idea (or you're an idiot who couldn't even mock an easy target like President Bush). On the other hand, if you have an idea and it falls apart in the face of criticism, don't get indignant and claim that your idea deserves special treatment. It's a stupid idea. What the fuck are you doing? Trash it already.
Any so-called "sacred" topic has that status because the whole idea would fall apart without the special treatment. So what do people do? They try to bullshit everyone into thinking that any mockery or criticism directed toward their fallacious idea is an irreverent cheap-shot.
Fuck your religion, fuck your traditions, and fuck your taboos. If your ideas are so "divinely inspired," they would withstand a little mockery, don't you think?
And because I know I have at least a dozen smart-asses who read my website, let me say this: I look forward to your scathing criticism.
