What's So Ironic About an Unholy Apocalypse?
Have you ever felt like asking someone, "Do you think before you speak?" If they have used one of the following words prior to your query, I submit that they have not:
"Apocalypse"
Anyone who has ever heard of the Mayan calendar will inevitably spew this word out every chance he gets, often in reference to books with such titles as Apocalypse 2012.
If you're one of these dipshits, prepare to get your ass handed to you: Apocalypse doesn't mean "the end of the world" at all; it means a revelation. If your cousin tells you that she's going out with a millionaire, that's an apocalypse. Does that stop those book-carrying New Age losers from spewing this nonsense every chance they get? Nope.
"Unholy"
When a video game uses the word "unholy" to describe an item or location, their designers are being lazy.
The etymological definition of "holy" is closest to "separate" (source). If holy is separate, then unholy means not separate, or-- depending on the context-- part of the majority.
The next time you have to read some emo kid's poetry and he refers to himself as an "unholy nonconformist," try to control your snickering.
"Ironic" / "Irony"
Every time some dipshit does or says something witty or clever, Dipshit B will come along and shit on the hilarity by saying "How ironic!" What's ironic, fellatrix?! The word "irony" doesn't apply to every situation.
Irony is literally defined as "incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs." Every time a feminist gives a speech and expects anyone to give a shit about her shallow opinion could be considered ironic. Every mildly-humorous situation in the world isn't ironic.
While I'm all for the "language is defined by usage" smut, it makes my teeth grind when people say stupid things (not counting when they're intentionally being stupid for the sake of humor).
